The Different Uses Of Spirometers

By Jaclyn Hurley

Knowing how the lung functions is an important aspect of life. Therefore patients with lung problems are usually monitored by use of Spirometers. The respiratory system is what enables one to breathe the normal way and so, in case of any hitches, it should be monitored the correct way. Good attention should also be accorded to such patients with lung problems and so, this is the tool that most doctors use for this purpose.

This equipment can be used to detect any lung illness and it can also be used to check whether one has allergy to some of these lung medications. It can even do early detection and know whether one is prone lung infections. Sometimes, it acts early enough even before symptoms show up. This tool can tell of someone who will eventually develop a lung disease especially those coming from families with such cases.

Assisting the breathing mechanism is also one of the uses of this equipment. It helps by enabling one to breathe with ease and allow more air into the air sacs. Lung infections are prone to interfere with the breathing mechanism and this tool works by drawing good amount of air to the system for the benefit of the patient.

This equipment can also be used on those with smaller lungs for better inflation. This is to try and increase the size of the lungs so that enough, clean air can reach every part of them. If the breathing mechanism is improved, it also means that enough oxygen will flow to the bloodstream for better performance.

This tool is also key in reducing chances of infection especially from coughing. It is required of the lungs to be able to support the coughing mechanism. If the lungs are not fully in good order, then regular coughs may pose harm to the patient.

This tool can help in prevention of pneumonia attacks especially after surgery. This is because there are some fluids which may accumulate after heart surgery. If not removed, these fluids can block the air sacks thereby posing as a threat. If removed however, they improve the breathing mechanism and allow the lungs to get in more air. This equipment is therefore very important and can help remove such fluid so as to prevent them from accumulating.

This equipment contains an attached mouthpiece which is used for blowing in so as to enable enough air to get to the air sacs. It is possible to know the outcome because this device will eventually record the found results. At this point, a doctor will know how to carry on and what remedies to use on such a patient.

Using this apparatus to test the lung condition of any patient may require numerous tests. This is to assist the doctor in having something consistent and accurate. If a test is done once, it may not portray what it was meant to. The results however should be compared with the age, weight and height of the patient to attain the average as these acts as the determinant factors in lung diagnosis.
